Spotify has launched Memberships, a built-in way for podcasters to charge fans for member-only content without sending them to a separate platform.
Spotify announced Memberships on October 20, 2026, rolling the feature out across 34 markets. Eligible creators set their own subscription tiers and pricing inside Spotify for Creators, and Spotify says creators keep 90% of membership revenue after payment processing fees. Members get exclusive audio and video episodes, bonus episodes, fewer ads, early access to new episodes and archive content, plus member badges and shout-outs, with member-only comments and polls planned. Sign-ups run through the web rather than in-app purchase, and creators can export their member data — names, emails and subscription status — so the relationship is not locked inside Spotify.
Eligibility requires a show hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone, at least three published episodes, at least 100 consumption hours, and at least 100 listeners or viewers in the qualifying window. Launch shows include The Adam Friedland Show, Making Sense with Sam Harris, the Shawn Ryan Show, Two Hot Takes, The Sculpt Society, twelve YMH Studios podcasts and, in Australia, Shameless — whose flagship show fronts the launch coverage there.
WHY IT MATTERS
Paid memberships have historically lived on third-party platforms, splitting a podcaster's audience across tools. Spotify putting subscriptions, billing and member perks inside the app where listening already happens removes that friction — and the 90% creator share undercuts most rivals. For podcasters, the practical question is no longer whether fans will pay, but whether to build the paid tier where the audience already is.
Podcasters hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone can check eligibility in their dashboard and design a membership tier — bonus episodes and early access are the simplest starting perks.
Announcement date: October 20, 2026.
