Silver Sound announced on September 22 that registration is open for the Winter 2027 edition of Sonic Dash, its 48-hour audio storytelling competition, running January 8–10, 2027. Registration costs $25 per person and closes January 7, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET.
The format: entrants are emailed a surprise prompt on Friday, January 8 and must write, record, mix and submit an original piece under two minutes by noon on Sunday, January 10. No archival material, sound libraries, pre-existing music or generative AI are allowed. Solo or team entries are accepted worldwide. The grand prize is $1,000 cash plus an audio software and hardware bundle; second place takes $350 in audio services and plugins; the top three are featured on the Silver Podcast Network, with finalists judged and showcased at a live New York City celebration.
For indie audio makers, this is cheap, high-leverage visibility: a finished portfolio piece, a deadline that forces output, and judging by working audio professionals. The constraints — original work only, two minutes, 48 hours — are the point.
