The Podscribe Performance Benchmark Report for Q2 2026, reported September 24 by Podcast News Daily, puts the average podcast ad load at 10.3%, down 4.6% from the previous quarter. It is the second consecutive quarterly decline and a break from the typical seasonal pattern — Senior Director of Partnerships Camden Weber called it "kind of an anomaly," noting the last Q2 dip was in 2022.
Podscribe attributes the decline to buyers diversifying spend into the long tail and adding programmatic, rather than concentrating on heavy-load flagship shows. The data supports that shift: shows with high ad loads generate nearly half the conversion rate of lighter-load shows. Audience buys accounted for 20% of tracked impressions (down from 22% in Q1), while programmatic edged down to 14.5% (from 15%).
On effectiveness, podcast-only campaigns produced a 26% median incremental lift in purchases, and measurable incrementality persists even 60 days after ad exposure — a data point for anyone arguing podcast ads work beyond the immediate response window. The figures are Podscribe's tracked-impression data, not industry-wide measurement.
